Dorothea Maria Lösch , married Dorothea Maria Theslöf or Theslef , * 1730 ; † February 2, 1799 in Stockholm , according to an older source, was Sweden's first female ship captain . Further spellings of her maiden name are Dorothea Maria Losch or Dorothea Maria Läsch .

The most important reference to Lösch's life is Wilhelmina Stålberg's publication Anteckningar om svenska quinnor (Notes / Notes on Swedish Women) from 1864. There it is noted: “Among the women who have distinguished themselves through courage and bravery, Mrs. Theslöf plays a prominent role. During the larger, decisive archipelago battle on Svensksund on July 9, 1790, she took command of the ship Armida after all officers were killed, injured or detached. For this heroic deed she received from King Gustav III. the power of attorney as master of the Swedish fleet. This power of attorney should still exist. "

However, modern investigations could not find any further documents on the events on the ship Armida . Furthermore, the named power of attorney is missing. It is certain that Lösch married Corvette Captain Mårten Johan Theslef in 1756 , had 11 children with him and spent large parts of their lives in Finland . She published a medical treatise on the treatment of smallpox in 1765 .
