Dorre Island in the Atlas de l'expédition Baudin

Dorre Island is a 30 kilometers long, very narrow island off the west coast of Australia .

The island, 57 kilometers southwest of the city of Carnarvon , was the location of a medical isolation ward at the beginning of the 19th century. The now uninhabited and approximately 60 km² island is only separated from northern Bernier Island by a 500 meter wide sound .

Today the island is home to some of the last specimens of the banded hare kangaroo ( Lagostrophus fasciatus ).

It belongs to Bernier and Dorre Iceland Nature Reserve , one in the Shark Bay in Western Australia located nature reserve , and may be entered for the protection of wildlife only with special permission.
