dossier

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A dossier [dɔ.sje] ( French: dossier , 'bundle of files', 'folder'; 'file (s)') is a collection of documents on a specific topic. Most of the time, the documents are put together in a solid envelope.

In addition, the term “dossier” stands on the one hand for a category of newspaper articles , on the other hand it is understood as a collection of articles in the political and social area on the Internet . (See also journalistic form of presentation .)

use

Dossiers of this type are usually published in so-called color books ( brown book , blue book , white book , black book , etc.) or made available in some other way. Dossiers can relate to public affairs, for example relations with a particular state, economic development or the functioning of an institution. In addition to the sources, i.e. the underlying documents, the dossier also includes the reporting and the final report.

There are also secret dossiers that are used for state tasks and the creation and results of which are subject to strict confidentiality . The content can be, for example, psychological reports on politicians (for example the OSS profile on Adolf Hitler from 1943) or an analysis of the procedures used by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution .

Personnel files

A specific application of the term that is common in Switzerland is the personnel dossier, i.e. the collection of documents on a person in an organization’s human resources department. Application documents are also known as dossiers in Switzerland. B. Application documents that are sent from a temporary office to the client company in order to introduce an applicant, also known as a dossier.

Archive dossiers

The Swiss archives are familiar with another specific application : Dossiers contain all relevant documents (files, photos, plans, etc.) relating to a business, a subject or an activity (dossier principle) .

The newspaper dossier

The term “dossier” is also used for a category of newspaper articles in which the information from files is prepared. Last but not least, “Dossier” denotes bundles of several articles, background reports, interviews , portraits, etc. published jointly in magazines on one topic.

In the case of online editions of newspapers such as Süddeutsche.de or Junge Welt.de , collections of old, formerly freely available online articles that are now available for purchase are referred to as “dossiers”.
