Dostai ben Jannai
Dostai ben Jannai was a Jewish scholar of the late second and early third centuries. He is counted among the fourth generation of Tannaites and worked in the second half of the second century AD.
Dostai passed on the statements of Meir , Jose and Eleazar and is best known for his Haggadic discussions and the humor that often emerges . He was a fellow student of Jehuda ha-Nasis and Joseph ben Kipper and went with the latter as the patriarch's messenger to Babylonia . Dostai ( PA III, 8) handed down the saying from Rabbi Meir : "If you forget a word of what you have learned, you forfeit your life".
