Douglas Gene "Doug" Stanhope (born March 25, 1967 in Worcester , Massachusetts ) is an American stand-up comedian . With coarse and provocative humor he deals with topics such as drug use , abortion , religion and politics , often referring to common prejudices.

Life

Stanhope lived in the town he was born in until he was 18 and then moved to Las Vegas where he made his first appearances. He currently lives in Bisbee, Arizona .

Career

Stanhope's career began in Las Vegas in 1990 , where he was initially paid with alcoholic beverages. Since then he has appeared at many international festivals, including the Juste pour rire in Montreal / Canada and in 2002 at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe .

Stanhope's provocative style doesn't always go down well with audiences. In 2006, at the Kilkenny Arts Festival , he commented on a recent change in the law that resulted in the release of a sex offender, stating that Irish women were “too ugly to rape” - and was booed for it.
