Douglas McGregor
Douglas Murray McGregor (* 1906 in Detroit ; † October 1, 1964 in Massachusetts ) was a professor of management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He is considered to be one of the founding fathers of contemporary management.
McGregor studied employee dynamics in companies. In his book The Human Side of Enterprise , published in 1960 , he presented 10 principles that managers should use to create a climate of enthusiasm, commitment and motivation in their company, which has a direct effect on efficiency and market success. McGregor saw the key to this in self-determined work and flat hierarchies . He also developed the theories Theory X and Theory Y , which are supposed to represent the natural relationship between people and their work.
McGregor's ideas are important in the management field to this day and form the basis of much other work in the field. In 1957, McGregor was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
