Douglas Tate

Douglas Tate (born October 28, 1934 , † November 16, 2005 ) was a British harmonica player, harmonica manufacturer and seller, specialist author and President of the Society for the Preservation and Advancement of the Harmonica .

By profession he was actually a teacher, among other things for music . He taught himself how to play harmonica and how to put music theory into practice with the instrument. From 1954 to 1967 he represented Great Britain at the World Harmonica Championships . He often played music for radio, film, and television. Since 1996 he has been a regular guest at the Buckeye Harmonica Festival in Columbus (Ohio) . Since 2000 he has been the contact person in several harmonica forums on the Internet for all possible questions about good harmonica playing, instrument maintenance and good harmonica.

After many years of manual experience with the repair, maintenance, care and improvement of harmonicas, which are actually a mass-produced industrial product, he began, together with Bobbie Giordano , the most modern and best harmonica in the world, the "Renaissance" , with self-developed, elaborate manual methods , to manufacture and sell a chromatic harmonica to many of the best harmonica players and greatest harmonica enthusiasts in the world. Shortly before his death, he handed over the production of the Renaissance to CA Seydel Söhne .
