The Dour Festival is an annual music festival for alternative music in Dour , Belgium since 1989 . The event, which spanned five days from Wednesday to Sunday, had around 235,000 visitors in 2016. The festival offers a wide range of music genres, including drum and bass , dubstep , downtempo , indie rock , metal , hip hop , techno , dub and reggae .
history
The Dour Festival first took place on September 16, 1989. Around 2000 visitors came to the first edition, the festival only had one stage and lasted one day. In addition, only French-speaking bands appeared. In 1990 they stayed true to the format until in 1991 the festival was extended to two days and a new record was set with 15 bands. In 1992, however, they returned to the old format, one stage and one day, but achieved a new visitor record of 4,000. In 1993, the festival was extended a second time to two days, expanded to a total of three stages and booked 32 bands. This achieved a record of 9,000 visitors. In 1994, with the bands Pulp and Blur , the festival managed to book its most prominent bands to date and to reach 15,000 visitors. The success continued in 1995 when the festival was extended to three days and The Ramones and Public Enemy performed alongside 78 artists . The number of visitors last year almost tripled to 43,000.
Since 1996 the Dour Festival has taken place over four days and has around 200,000 visitors each time. In 2015 it was expanded to five days for the first time, on which a total of 270 musicians and bands performed. At the same time, the 200,000 visitor mark was broken for the first time with 228,000 visitors.
