The Dowanhill United Presbyterian Church , now the Cottiers Theater , is a former church building and now a theater and restaurant in the Scottish city ​​of Glasgow . In 1970 the building was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

When the new church was put out to tender for the United Presbyterian Church of Scotland in December 1864, William Leipers design prevailed among others against John Honeymans , who had already built several churches for the Presbyterian Church. It is Leipzig's first church building. The design was presented at an exhibition in Paris as early as 1862. After laying the foundation stone on August 4, 1865, the church was opened on November 11, 1866. To design the stained glass windows was with Daniel Cottier one of the greatest Scottish glass artists won his time. In 1948 the structure was revised.

After the building became obsolete, the Four Acres Charitable Trust had it remodeled in 1989. Since 1994 it has housed the Cottiers Theater, a theater and restaurant business. In 2004 the interior was restored.

The building is on Hyndland Road across from Dowanhill Park in the western Dowanhill district of Glasgow . The 159 m high bell tower is in front of the hall church on the south side.
