The Downes Glacier is a glacier on the north coast of Heard Island in the southern Indian Ocean . It flows around Cape Bidlingmaier in a northerly direction .
Scientists from the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions conducted a survey in 1948. The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia named him after the Australian biologist M. C. Downes, who worked on Heard in 1951 and 1963.
