Cape Bidlingmaier is a cape on the north coast of Heard Island . It's on the east side of the Mechanics Bay entrance .
The cape was charted as Morgan's Point by the American seal hunter HC Chester in 1860 when he was operating in the waters around Heard Island. In the years between 1860 and 1870 it was also known under the name Negros Head . The cape owes its current name to the Gauss expedition (1901–1903) under the direction of the German polar explorer Erich von Drygalski , who surveyed the north coast of Heard Island in 1902. It is named after the German geophysicist and meteorologist Friedrich Bidlingmaier (1875–1914), who took part in this research trip.
