Doxa Dramas is a Greek football club from the city of Drama , which is in the administrative region of East Macedonia and Thrace . Doxa Dramas currently plays in the Football League , the second Greek league.

history

The club was founded in 1918 after a football friendship game between residents of the town of Drama and British soldiers stationed in the region during the First World War . Until 1919 the association was called Pyleas . Then the club was renamed the Association for Physical Education DOXA , in Greek: Σύλλογο σωματικής αγωγής Η ΔΟΞΑ . The original club coat of arms was the clover leaf, which was then replaced by the black eagle, hence the nickname "black eagle" = Mavraeti = Μαυραετοί in Greek.

After the introduction of the Greek national leagues in 1959/60, Doxa Dramas took part in 21 Greek national championships of the first division, in Greek A 'Ethniki. The best placement was sixth in the year it was introduced in 1959/60. Also in 1960, 1961 and 1991 Doxa Dramas was recognized as the best provincial team, an unofficial title of the teams outside Attica and Thessaloniki . Before the introduction of the first national league in Greece (A 'Ethniki), Doxa Dramas had reached the final stages of the Greek championships three times in 1957, 1958, 1959.

In the Greek Cup, Doxa Dramas reached the final three times, but lost all three finals against Olympiakos : 0-2 in 1954, 5-1 in 1958 and 2-1 in 1959. Doxa Dramas also reached the Greek Cup semi-finals three times (1952, 1955, 1961) and four more times the quarter-finals (1981, 1991, 1992, 1993).

Stadion

The first official game that ended 3-0 for Doxa Drama was played by Doxa Dramas against the neighboring city of Kavala . After the first successes, the lack of a stadium of their own emerged. Anastasios Doumpesas donated the property for the Doxa Drama Stadium. The inauguration took place on July 1, 1927. It currently has a capacity of 9,000 spectators (as of December 21, 2017).
