Dr. Comandi's orphanage in Florence - the Asilio

Dr. Comandi's love work in Italy is the title of a brochure by Franz Eugen Schlachter , which first appeared as a serial in his Christian magazine Brosamen . In it he describes the activities of Giuseppe Comandi (1844–1905) in Florence .

content

The brochure describes the diaconal orphans and poor work of Giuseppe Comandi and his wife Cäcilie geb. Paroz, a daughter of the famous Swiss educator Jules Paroz (1824–1906). The articles were sent in by Anna von Hesse. In 1899 they were published in the Brosamen by Franz Eugen Schlachter . Nothing more is known about Mrs. von Hesse, except that she is mentioned in connection with the Reformed revival preacher and Free Church founder Adolphe Monod . Frau von Hesse's articles began in issue no. 12 of the crumbs from March 12, 1899 and ended with no. 24 from June 11, 1899. They were provided with beautiful pictures of the orphanage in Florence, called "Asilo" , but also with pictures of Comandi himself and the other houses of the plant, e.g. B. the Trebbiolo estate near Florence, or the work in Siena . Schlachter later published this sequel article as a 46-page brochure.

The story is very impressive. Comandi and his wife worked among the poorest of the poor in a hostile environment. As far as possible, they gave them some things to cover their greatest material need and preached to them the gospel of redemption through Jesus Christ, unknown to them . The brochure not only introduces the work, but also describes the individual fates of these poor people, especially how they gave good witness to the salvation through Jesus Christ despite their poverty. The brochure describes part of the history of Italy , especially of Florence, but also a piece of Italian church history , namely the work of the Waldensian preacher and former lawyer Comandi among the poorest of the poor.
