The Dračí vrch (German Dragon Mountain) is a mountain above Liberec (Reichenberg), which is located in the west of the Jizera Mountains south of the village of Fojtka (Voigtsbach). In the summit region, the Drachenfels, a staircase with 70 steps is carved into the rock. The stairs were laid out in 1902 by the German Mountain Association Reichenberg. From the top you can see the Brdo (Katherinenberg, 876 meters) in the foreground and the Jeschken .
Access
The Drachenberg can be reached via three hiking trails.
- A green marked hiking trail leads from Voigtsbach (Fojtka) from the north, which passes below the Drachenfelsen. Together with a nature trail, this path leads to the mountain saddle under the Drachenberg. The summit is easily accessible from there.
- From the district of Reichenberg-Ratschendorf (Radčice (Liberec)) a green hiking trail leads to the saddle under the Dragon Mountain, from where it climbs up to the summit along with other paths.
- The shortest and steepest route is the direct ascent on the blue-marked hiking trail from the Liberec-Katharinberg district (Kateřinky (Liberec)).
legend
According to a legend, a dragon lived on the Drachenberg to which a local girl had to be sacrificed on a regular basis. However, one day a friend of a chosen girl seriously wounded the dragon with a yew arrow. The angry dragon then shaped the Drachenfels into its current shape.
