Dragon boat festival Hanover

The Dragon Boat Festival in Hanover has been taking place on Whitsun since 1995 on the Maschsee in Hanover . The organizer of the competition based on the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival is the Hannoversche Kanu-Club from 1921 .

In 2014, around 3,500 dragon boat athletes from 140 teams, including groups from Sweden, the Netherlands and Switzerland , took part in the 20th Dragon Boat Festival. It was organized by “a well-rehearsed team of 140 people” over three days for around 60,000 athletes and guests.

The event began in 1995 with 8 teams and has since become (2015) the largest event of its kind in Germany with 142 teams, 7 tracks and over 150 starts. Despite its size, the event is still organized on a voluntary basis.
