history

The founder of the Hanoverian Canoe Club from 1921 is considered to be the "father of the Maschsee", the master carpenter and water sports enthusiast Karl Thiele , who with his initiative "probably founded the first canoe club in Germany". The present name of HKC opened in August 1933, when the then Hannoversche canoe club from 1921 , the oldest aligned in Hannover on this sport club, with the Hanover Canoe Club from 1925 merged .

In 1956, the HKC merged with the Kanu-Sportgemeinschaft Hannover (KSH), which was founded after the Second World War , and was thus able to use a larger boathouse on the Maschsee.

In 1995 the HKC organized the Hanover Dragon Boat Festival for the first time.
