action

The student Teru Aoki travels back to Tokyo by train with his class after an excursion. Suddenly there is a disaster, the train is destroyed and all classmates Terus and the teacher die. Teru finds himself in a tunnel and soon meets Nobou Takahashi, who goes mad as a result of the destruction, and the injured Ako Seto. Teru helps her and they go on together, but crazy Nobou wants to sacrifice her to "the darkness" soon. After another earthquake, they can escape it.

Teru and Ako walk through the devastated country where all government has collapsed. A sect has usurped power in Tokyo. Soon they meet the planes Nimura, Iwada, Yamazaki and Ookie with a helicopter, who are looking for food and girls. They both want to capture and rape Ako, but the two can defend themselves. After Ookie is killed by Teru and Yamazaki dies in a fire, the four survivors work together.

Since they cannot go directly to Tokyo because of a black wall of clouds, they first fly to the Izu Peninsula. There the four want to repair the helicopter, but they are attacked by the residents of the city. Since Izu has now become an island, the population is starving and wanting to commit suicide en masse. But first they want to kill everyone else. Finally, the four of them manage to escape and are now on their way to Tokyo.

On their flight through the black clouds towards Mount Fuji , they see that it is completely destroyed. The mountain was hit by a meteorite. When they land and look for water in a mall, it collapses, causing Iwada to die. Finally, Teru makes his way to Tokyo anyway.

In the devastated Tokyo, he meets a group led by a scientist, which mainly includes the wounded. There he sees more and more a drawing that is already known to him as the Dragon Head . After he leaves the group, he soon finds a message from Ako. Following this he goes to school, where he meets her and Nimura. Teru learns that his parents have died and is threatened by Nimura, but he and Ako escape.

Foreign soldiers storm Tokyo and fight the survivors in the city. The Japanese government and nuclear weapons have disappeared since the disaster, and scientists in Tokyo claim to have contributed to the disaster. Eventually a volcano rises in Tokyo.
