Glénat is a French publisher . Since 1972 he has mainly published comics and manga in France , Benelux and Spain . The publishing house was founded by the current president Jaques Glénat and is headquartered in Grenoble .

history

In 1969 the 17-year-old Jaques Glénat started his comic fanzine Schtroumpf . Three years later he began to work as a publisher: two first albums by Claude Serre and Claire Bretécher appeared in the newly founded publishing house. As early as 1974, Glénat received an award in Angoulême . A shop was opened in Paris and a large department store in Orly near Paris. In the 1970s and 1980s, numerous series of albums were published and books with a focus on travel, mountains and winter sports under the Glénat livres label . There were also magazines in comics and geography. From the 1990s onwards, manga became more popular.

In 2009 the publisher made 50% of its sales with comics, 20% with manga, 15% with books and 15% with other products. The publishing house has three international branches: Glénat Benelux (F / NL / B / LUX), Glénat Espagne (S) and Glénat Suisse (CH).
