Work and style

Claire Bretécher (1973)

In her work, Bretécher dealt with everyday life at the end of the 20th century and, in particular, with the demands placed on modern women by church and society, but also by feminism . She covered a spectrum from the problem of correct anti-authoritarian upbringing to the problem of acquiring a seamless tan . With her drawing style, Bretécher broke with the traditions of the Franco-Belgian school. The text takes on an equal role alongside the image. This cleared the way for a new generation of cartoonists. Her style of working out the emotional life of her characters is minimalist.
