Hess is the abbreviation for Geno ssenschaft of Dre chsler , sculptor , wood and toy manufacturers in Seiffen in the Erzgebirge . Dregeno Seiffen is an association of over 140 craftsmen and craftsmen from the Ore Mountains, which are primarily based in and around Seiffen in the so-called “toy corner”.
Training center

Emergence
The history of wooden toy production in the Ore Mountains and the formation of cooperatives is closely linked to the regional framework. For many centuries the Erzgebirge was a landscape that the local population found it difficult to feed. Long and hard winters restricted agriculture, the region was poorly served by traffic and the dangerous ore mining could only provide work for the young and strong men. Out of necessity, wooden toy production emerged as an important source of secondary income. Despite child labor and long working hours, earnings were very low and were often further reduced by the buying dealers who tried to lower prices.
The formation of associations and cooperatives (such as Dregeno, founded in 1919) was the result in order to secure a minimum income.
distribution
Dregeno also had a name in the distribution of accessories for model railways . In the 1950s, the Pflugbeil workshop in Seiffen produced train stations, platforms, signal boxes and other railway buildings for gauges 00 and S in a timber construction typical of the region. The small vehicles, fire brigades and carts made of wood with wire wheels are also very well known and sought after by collectors . There are also small wooden figures - in a simple turned shape with a smooth face and in an elaborate carved shape with a recognizable nose (" nose man "). The experienced collector can recognize the manufacturer's workshop by means of certain features, colors and stamps.
