The Trinity Church of Gmünd in Carinthia is located in Fischertratten 4 in the municipality of Gmünd in Carinthia in the Spittal an der Drau district in Carinthia . The Evangelical Lutheran Church named after the Trinity belongs to the Evangelical Superintendentur AB Carinthia and East Tyrol of the Evangelical Church AB in Austria .

history

Gmünd has about 2600 inhabitants, about a third of them are Protestant. The Evangelicals in Gmünd have been looked after by the parish of Dornbach since the 18th century . The Dreifaltigkeitskirche was built as a daughter church of Dornbach. Initially, there was a plan to rebuild and adapt the profaned Pankratius Church, which was not done for financial reasons. Then in 1996 architects and engineers were invited to submit designs. The favored design by Gert Ziegler was judged to be too modern by the local image commission of the community. Then the architect Felix Orsini-Rosenberg was commissioned to work out a new design. The design was then carried out from 2000 to 2001 with the engineer Gert Ziegler. The church was consecrated on June 10, 2001.

architecture

The church stands near a bridge over the Lieser in the rear area on a corner piece of land under a gable roof, which creates a paved forecourt.

The church has a circular central room under a barrel vault on the ground floor and a pastor's room and a youth room on the other side. The circular interior of the church, designed for 150 people, opens up through the central foyer with a small diagonal, cylindrical niche as a baptismal area. The barrel vault of the church interior as a plastered wood construction enables a large semicircular window on the gable side for sufficient daylight and a broad view of a large spruce. The small, longitudinally arranged portal vestibule to the foyer stands in the free-standing, open bell tower made of four high reinforced concrete columns, which ends with a small, open wooden gable roof.

A simple two-flight staircase leads from the foyer to the upper floor with the organ gallery. Opposite under the gable roof is a sexton's apartment, which is somewhat reminiscent of Protestant prayer houses according to the tolerance patent with an apartment on the upper floor.

Furnishing

In the church, an altar cross hovers over the central circular altar. The height of the altar is adjustable, so you can celebrate sitting in a small circle. In the baptismal cone, fresh running water constantly flows from an external fountain via a baptismal font into a floor basin. In the other diagonal to the baptismal cone stands the ambo as a wooden three-legged frame with a flexible reading desk. The floating altar cross puts the crossbar at a distance and refers with incised Roman numerals to the fourteen stations of the cross, in the upper area of the standing wood of the altar cross there is a Christ torso, which was transferred here from a demolished wooden house in Mölltal . There is a bell in the open belfry.
