Trinity Chapel

The Trinity Chapel in Ofterschwanger district Tiefenberg is a building from the 17th century.

History and description

The year 1657 can be found in an oak lintel; this year is therefore assumed to be the year the chapel was built . In the roof turret hangs a bell that was cast by Michael Weingarten in Kempten . It bears the year 1708 and the inscription "AVE MARIA GRATIA PLENA DOMINUS TECUM". In a transversely oval cartridge , the founders inscription "IN HOCHFIRST STYFFT KEMPTEN GOS ME MICHAEL WEINGARTEN" place.

The chapel is adorned with depictions of the Way of the Cross from 1777, two watercolors from the 18th century showing Saint Martin on horseback and Saint Wendelin , and a wooden clad figure of the Virgin from the late 18th century. The head and hands of the baby Jesus she is holding are made of wax.

A memorial plaque commemorates the 13 residents of Tiefenberg who perished in the First and Second World Wars .

The main piece of the chapel is a small rococo altar from 1791, which comes from Obergünzburg . The Holy Trinity forms the middle group of this altar, with St. Dominic and St. Catherine of Siena kneeling on the sides . The altar was newly marbled in 1927. At that time the rest of the chapel was also restored; In the course of this work, the old entrance, which was on the south side, was bricked up and replaced by an entrance on the west side. On November 24, 1927 the patronage festival - the chapel is dedicated to St. John of the Cross - was celebrated with a solemn ceremony. An earlier renovation probably took place in 1860; In any case, this year can be found together with the name Martin Thanner under one of the chapel benches.
