The three-color honeyeater ( Myzomela vulnerata ) is a species of bird in the family of honeyeater (Meliphagidae). The species is endemic to the Lesser Sunda Island Timor .

description

The species is very contrasting in color. In males, the middle of the top and back of the head, the upper throat, and the rump and tail-coverts are blood red. The entire remaining upper side including upper wing and tail as well as forehead, head sides and neck are smoky brownish black. The underside of the fuselage, the under wing coverts, the wing bend and the hems of the inner plumes of the wings are white. The beak is black, legs and toes are lead gray. The iris is reddish brown to red.

The three-color honey eater shows a weak sexual dimorphism . Females are colored similar to males, but less strong and on average a little smaller.

distribution and habitat

The tricolor honeyeater is endemic to the island of Timor . Its existence is not endangered. The bird lives in tropical forests, wetlands, plantations and the villages up to an altitude of 1200  m .
