Dromichaetes

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dromichaetes ( ancient Greek Δρομιχαίτης ) was around 300 BC. A ruler of the Geten . His empire stretched on both sides of the lower Danube (now Romania and Bulgaria ). Romanian historians believe that the capital of his empire Helis is in the Wallachian Plain . Since the discovery of his grave site near Svehtari in Northern Bulgaria (1982) the location of Helis in western Ludogorie has been assumed.

292 BC During a campaign on the Danube, the Diadoche Lysimachus , king of Thrace , was taken captive by Dromichaete. He treats him courteously and releases him soon afterwards so as not to endanger the relations between the two kingdoms. Dromichaetes then marries a daughter of Lysimachus. Dromichaete's victory over the King of Thrace has been mentioned by some ancient historians. ( Strabon , Diodor , Polybios , Plutarch , Pausanias ).
