The youth and culture center houses a café, a beer garden, several stages and event rooms, workshops and group rooms. First and foremost, local bands and socio-cultural projects have space there, but international concerts are also held.

Although it is independent, it is partly funded with public funds. Certain projects are financially supported. Promotional prizes were also awarded to the compressed air. For example, it won the “Kruft Culture Prize”, which WAZ readers voted on. For 2009 the compressed air was nominated again. In June 2009, the district government decided to support the renovation of the center with 1.67 million euros at an application from the city of Oberhausen, which it had submitted as part of the Social City and Economic Stimulus Package II program . In the period that followed, "provisional" facilities such as sanitary facilities were set up and the outdoor area expanded, for example.

The audience of the compressed air is not limited to certain scenes , but the house is considered a "contact point" for the political left . Nearby was the “Plan B” car park .

history

Compressed air has existed as a youth and cultural center since 1979. A group of around 40 people started the project at that time in order to realize their interests. After being used by Babcock , the site stood empty for several years. The city of Oberhausen handed it over to the compressed air eV, which has been managing the compressed air since then.
