The non-profit status of the association is recognized and registered with the Ibbenbüren tax office. The organization was founded in January 2005 by the German Frank Lieneke and has its headquarters in Lengerich ( Germany ).

history

What began as an emergency measure after the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake has turned into long-term development aid. In 2006 the "Angels Home for Children" was opened in Marawila . Financed by donations, a larger building could be erected not far from the old home after a few years: in 2011 it was occupied. Around 60 girls are currently living in the Angels Home.

In 2013 the project was expanded. A training center for girls over 18 years of age who have not graduated from school is being built on another property. In the future, they will be able to complete certified training courses in various craft areas here.

Project

In close cooperation with the local child welfare office , girls are placed at the Angels Home for Children. Most of them come from difficult circumstances which, among other things, do not allow them to attend school. Sometimes there are traumatic experiences from the past, which are also processed with the help of external experts.

Girls will find a home here at the earliest from the age of 5 and at most up to the age of 18. The girls attend local schools but receive additional tuition in Sinhala, English, math, computer science and handicrafts such as sewing at the home.

In addition to the Angels Home for Children, the association sporadically and depending on the available funds also supports other social institutions in Marawila's area.

Interns regularly have the opportunity to work in the children's home for several months.

aims

According to the statutes, the purpose and aim of the work of the association is:

a) the support of peoples or regional, religious and ethnic groups who are in particular distress or threatened by war, oppression, natural and environmental disasters;

b) the selfless promotion of the interests of the general public in material, spiritual and humanitarian areas that arise between the Federal Republic of Germany and developing countries. This particularly applies to understanding between peoples, the development of economic and cultural conditions within and between the individual areas, as well as the information and training in the field of language and culture that is necessary to improve mutual understanding.
