The Jalairids were a Mongolian dynasty in Iraq (1336-1432). They came from the Mongolian tribe of Jalaiyr from Transoxania , came to Persia in 1256 and rose to high state offices in the empire of the Ilkhan . With the fall of the Ilkhan Empire after 1335, the Jalairids under Hasan Buzurg (1336-1356) seized power in Iraq and made Baghdad a residence.

Under Uwais (1356-1374), the subjugation of northwestern Iran to Tabriz (1358) and Azerbaijan (1360) succeeded. He was also an important patron of the arts. A unification of Iran failed due to the resistance of the Muzaffarids in southern Iran and the Kartids in Khorasan .

Under Ahmad (1382–1410) there were disputes with Timur Lenk who conquered Baghdad in 1393 and subjugated Iraq. When Ahmad returned to Baghdad in 1395 with the support of the Egyptian Mameluks , the city was conquered again by Timur Lenk in 1401 and badly destroyed. Although the return to Baghdad succeeded again after the death of Timur Lenk, the Jalairids were driven there by the Qara Qoyunlu in 1411 . They were able to hold their own in Basra until 1432 .
