Jemal Chkuazeli

Dschemal Tschkuaseli (* 1935 in the Osurgeti region ) is a Georgian conductor. Since 1986 he has been the artistic director of the Georgian National Song and Dance Ensemble Erisioni .

Life

He was born the son of the singer and conductor Tschermandi Tschkuaseli. At the age of two and a half he was taught the polyphonic songs of the Guria region .

While studying in Tbilisi, he founded a singing group for young men. In 1976 he switched to a state singing and dance company. In 1980 he founded his own ensemble in Kutaisi , which soon went on tour through the Soviet Union .

In 1986 he became the artistic director and conductor of the Georgian National Song and Dance Ensemble Erisioni . He researched forgotten folk and spiritual songs from the different regions of Georgia, updated them for the stage lecture.

Tschkuaseli and the Erisoni Ensemble have toured Peru , the United States , Vietnam and India . The musical Georgian Legends , which is performed in Germany under the title Legends of the Storm , became the ensemble's greatest success .
