Dsibiltún - temple or palace

Dsibiltún or Dzibiltún (German: "painted stones") is a small Mayan ruin in the Mexican state of Campeche on the Yucatán peninsula .

location

Dsibiltún is located about 35 kilometers (as the crow flies) east of Edzná and about 15 kilometers south of the village of Hopelchén . The ruins are located about 500 meters west of the CF269 in the middle of the Yucatán bush forest.

Ruin site

The ruins only consist of a few buildings, all of which are very badly damaged. Only a part of a building on a hillside is still upright: The corners of the structure are rounded and the corners of the imposing multi-part roof structure with their set columns are also slightly drawn in. While the sides of the building are completely undecorated in the lower area, the largely collapsed facade shows geometric decorative motifs such as spirals and stairs above a three-part surrounding floor cornice.

Dating

The mature Chenes style of the building, here combined with a roof structure that is clearly based on the somewhat more northerly Puuc style , suggests a late construction phase (around 1100 AD).
