Dušan Čaplovič

Dušan Čaplovič (born September 18, 1946 in Bratislava ) is a Slovak archaeologist and politician .

Life

From 1990 to 1992 he was deputy director of the Archeology Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Nitra, from 1992 to 2001 he was a member of the Presidium of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (1995-2001 also deputy chairman of the Slovak Academy of Sciences). 1992–1995 he was a member of the Council of the Slovak Government for Science and Technology. Since 1994 he has lectured at the Philosophical Faculty of the Comenius University in Bratislava . Since 2001 he has been deputy chairman of the political party SMER .

Important memberships: Member of the International Slavic Committee in Warsaw; Representative of the Slovak Academy of Sciences at the UNESCO International Social Science Council in Paris; Member of the working group for genetic settlement research in Central Europe in Bonn; Member of the Permanent Committee Rulalia v Tervuren in Belgium; Member of the Medieval Settlement Research Group v Durham in the UK.

Čaplovič was Deputy Prime Minister of the Fico government formed after the 2006 elections and the Minister responsible for European affairs, human rights and minorities. In the second Fico government , formed after the March 2012 elections, he was Minister for Education, Youth and Sport from April 2012 to July 2014.
