Duan Yucai ( Chinese  段玉裁 , Pinyin Duàn Yùcái , W.-G. Tuan Yü-ts'ai ; born 1735; died 1815) was a well-known Chinese linguist and grammatologist. He is from Jintan in Jiangsu Province and was close friends with the linguist Dai Zhen . He was a member of the Wan School (Anhui School), which also included Wang Niansun and Wang Yinzhi . As a civil servant, he accepted a post in the border region, later he returned to linguistics. He is particularly known for his work on Xu Shen's masterpiece Shuowen jiezi and that on Shangshu . Materials on his life story are included in the Qingshi gao ( 清史稿 ) and Qingshi liezhuan ( 清史 列傳 ) , among others . His grave has been on the Jiangsu Province Monuments List since 2002 .
