Karin Hermes

Karin Hermes (* 1966 in Zurich ) is a choreographer , dancer , dance teacher and specialist in dance notation and the cinetography of Laban .

Live and act

Karin Hermes was trained as a stage dancer at the Zurich Ballet Academy and at the School of American Ballet in New York City . After subsequent engagements and a. At the Schauspielhaus Zürich and the Staatstheater Stuttgart she completed a degree in dance pedagogy at the Institute for Stage Dance at the Cologne University of Music . With a scholarship, she studied movement analysis and movement notation according to the Laban system at the Paris Conservatory . Here in 1998 she received the first prize in the focus on reconstruction for her "Cycle de perfectionnement". From 2004 to 2007 Hermes was artistic director of the atempo repertory dance ensemble and from 2005 to 2008 she was a guest artist at the Center National de la danse Pantin / Paris . She worked as a ballet master for the Atelier d'Envol and specialized in the rehearsal and adaptation of notated dance works from the 20th century.

In 2007 she founded hermesdance in Bern. With this professional ensemble she completes international tours and realized a. a. Coproductions with the Center National de la danse Pantin / Paris and the Zentrum Paul Klee in Bern . In 2009 and 2017 she received work grants from the canton of Bern for her choreographies “In the green corner of the circle” and “human rights”. From 2011 to 2015 she headed the Research Panel of the International Council of Kinetography Laban .

She is currently a lecturer in dance education at the Bern University of the Arts .

Hermes has worked as a guest lecturer and guest artist at universities and theaters in Germany, Paris, Lyon , The Place and Trinity Laban London and Israel .

In addition to the choreography of numerous dance theater productions, she reconstructs historical productions and researches reinterpretation processes of historical works. In addition, she made several dance film documentaries and noted choreographies a. a. by François Malkovsky, Lucinda Childs and Ether Winter and continued with works a. a. by Yvonne Rainer Anna Sokolow , Helen Tamiris and Lester Horton apart.

The choreography “Big City” by Kurt Jooss from 1932, which she reconstructed in collaboration with Anna Markard for the Junior Ballet Lyon , was recorded by WDR . The work Betwixed and Between - Dialogue with “Rooms” by Anna Sokolow was recorded for the 2009 Arte production “Dance-Rebells”.
