(3040) Kozai ( 1979 BA ) is an asteroid about three kilometers in size of the main inner belt that was discovered on January 23, 1979 by the American astronomer William Liller at the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory about 80 km east of La Serena in Chile ( IAU Code 807) was discovered.
designation
(3040) Kozai was named after the Japanese astronomer and celestial mechanic Yoshihide Kozai (1928-2018) who worked at the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (IAU code 388). The naming was suggested by astronomer JG Williams .
