Dubai Bawadi

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dubai Bawadi or Bawadi (desert) for short is a tourism project in Dubai , United Arab Emirates , whose construction has been suspended for the time being.

The project was officially announced on May 1, 2006 by Sheikh Muhammad bin Raschid Al Maktum . It is being developed and managed by the state development company Tatweer and should cost 200 billion AED (around 42 billion EURO) after an increase in funding .

The Bawadi construction area is located around 15 km inland from the coast as part of the Dubailand project, which has also been stopped . It extends on both sides of the road of a 10 km long and around 2 km wide desert-like strip of terrain. According to the master plan, 51 predominantly luxury large hotels, most of them in idiosyncratic high-rise architecture with a total of 60,000 rooms, as well as several theaters, cinema centers and shopping centers should be built here. The construction of the world's largest congress center was also announced.

The elongated Bawadi hotel and shopping center was to be supplemented by residential areas and leisure facilities, which are arranged around the very compact inner zone like external cells. The first of these new city quarters is called "Asmaran" and, with an area of almost 7 square kilometers, should also offer enough space for generous green and recreational areas. In Asmaran the "Teema" housing estate with 308 townhouses and villas in the Spanish style is being marketed first.
