DubaiLand is an urban entertainment center under construction in Dubai , United Arab Emirates since 2005 . From 2008 the project was on a construction freeze, but this was lifted again in mid-2013. Completion is planned for before 2020.

overview

On a total of 140 km² of former desert area, DubaiLand is expected to attract up to 200,000 visitors a day.

DubaiLand is divided into seven themed worlds:

  • Downtown : This complex is to become the international shopping area of DubaiLand.
  • Eco-Tourism World : This theme world includes tropical biodome , desert safaris in an artificial wadi landscape, as well as a science and history museum. A computer-animated dinosaur world and an artificial rainforest are also planned.
  • Retail & Entertainment World : Another theme world in which entertainment and shopping are in the foreground, including a. with one of the largest shopping malls in the world, the Mall of Arabia with over 1000 stores and 35 skyscrapers in the area.
  • Attractions & Experience World : This theme park is to become the “ Disneyland ” in DubaiLand. It includes the Dubai ferris wheel , the water park and roller coasters . In addition, Dubai's Film City with around 35 film halls will be housed there, making Dubai the largest film theater city in the region. The Snowdome is to become a winter sports amusement park under a huge glass dome. In contrast to Ski Dubai , the Snowdome will also have steep slopes for demanding winter sports enthusiasts.
  • Dubai Sports City : This 5 square kilometer ensemble is to become the Olympic-compatible sports complex of DubaiLand. As of 2010 there will be several golf courses surrounded by villas, central residential and business quarters, four gigantic stadiums for different uses, four professional sports academies for tennis , hockey , swimming , cricket and football as well as a Formula 1 racing track ( Dubai Autodrome ).
  • Themed Leisure & Vacation World : This complex offers special themed hotels as overnight accommodation. The concept for Dubai Bawadi , analogous to Las Vegas and Disneyland, assumes that many visitors often flock to Dubai from all over the world for a stay in this secluded fantasy world for several days.
  • LEGOLAND Dubailand : In the near future, a Legoland is to be built on 28 hectares within Dubailand. It will be laid out in a similar way to the other existing parks. This project is financed by the Merlin Entertainments Group in an alliance with Tatweer, a member of Dubai Holdings.

DubaiLand is to be built modularly in four construction phases. The first section with the necessary infrastructure measures was completed in 2008. The entire DubaiLand complex is expected to cost five billion US dollars .

City of Arabia

The City of Arabia is a sub-project of the overall DubaiLand project; the groundbreaking ceremony took place on January 4, 2006. This part is located in the center of DubaiLand and only takes up a small part of the total area with an area of around 18 km². The City of Arabia is a “city within the city” marked by skyscrapers. It should have clinics, restaurants, apartments, schools and apartments for around 40,000 residents. The skyline will be formed by the Elite Towers, a total of 34 high-rise buildings with up to 60 floors, which will provide additional restaurants, apartments, offices and hotels. This district is surrounded by green spaces and parks with particularly large artificial water areas. In order to bring visitors quickly from Dubai International Airport to the City of Arabia, a direct connection from the Dubai Monorail is planned.

At the end of August 2016, the IMG Worlds of Adventure amusement park opened in the City of Arabia , at the time the largest indoor theme park in the world.

Mall of Arabia

The Mall of Arabia is a shopping center under construction on the outskirts of the City of Arabia, which, when it is planned to be completed in phases, will be the largest shopping center in the world with a total area of around 2 million m² (including 1 million m² of retail space for almost 2000 shops). The complex would be about twice the size of the Dubai Mall, which opened in 2008 .
