biography

After completing high school in Regensburg with the grade of "excellent", Anton Braunmüller began studying philosophy at the local lyceum in 1845. In order to finance his livelihood, he had accepted the position of tutor with the District President Freiherr Friedrich von Zu Rhein. He moved to Munich with the Zu Rhein family in 1847 and continued to study philosophy and theology there. At the University of Munich he listened to professors Ignaz Döllinger , Daniel Haneberg and Franz Xaver Reithmayr and lived in the Ducal Georgianum . After completing his studies, he entered the Regensburg seminary in 1849 and was ordained a priest on July 16, 1850 .

In the following year he asked for admission to the Benedictine Abbey of Metten. During his profession on October 24, 1852, he received the religious name Benedict . In the following years, Benedikt Braunmüller worked as an educator in the seminary and as a teacher at the grammar school of the Metten monastery and as a novice master at the monasteries of Lambach (Austria) and St. Bonifaz in Munich, which are associated with Metten . After Abbot Utto Lang's death, Benedikt Braunmüller was elected as his successor on March 17, 1884. As abbot, his concern was the renewal of monastic life and the economic security of the Metten monastery.

As a historian, Benedikt Braunmüller was mainly interested in church and order history, but also in local and regional history. In all these areas, in addition to his work as a teacher and abbot, he has left publications.
