The Dubuisson Brewery is a Belgian brewery . It is the oldest brewery in the Walloon Region .

The brewery became internationally known for its beer brands " Bush " and " Cuvée des Trolls ". In some countries, Bush beer is also marketed as "Scaldis".

history

In 1769 the Dubuisson brewery was founded in Pipaix . Joseph Leroy, one of the current boss's maternal ancestors, once built a large farm at the current location in Pipaix; there he also built the Dubuisson brewery. At this point in time, Joseph Leroy was already the master brewer of the landlord Ghissegnies and head of his brewery, which was located directly opposite today's brewery. Joseph Leroy did not pay taxes but was accountable to his landlord. In 1769, however, Maria Theresa of Austria levied taxes on all breweries; even those who belonged to the squire. Since the Dubuisson brewery no longer had any advantages, it moved to the other side of the road (to a place that was not determined by the manor) in order to become independent.

The Hof-Brauerei, which at that time only brewed for agricultural workers and villagers, continued its production until 1932. Then the Hof brewery was bought up by Alfred and Amédée Dubuisson, who wanted to convert the brewery into a commercial company. The year 1933 is considered to be the birth of the "Bush beer": a beer that combines both Belgian and English tastes (English beers were quite popular in Belgium at the time). The name also pays homage to English beers; it comes from English, but still contains the name of the Belgian brewery. The beer helped the Dubuisson brewery to gain international fame.

In 1991 the Christmas Bush beer ("Bush de Noël") was created; a beer specially brewed for the festivities at the end of the year. Due to the abundant use of caramel malt, the Christmas Bush beer takes on a darker color and is copper-colored.

In 1994, on the occasion of the 225th anniversary of the brewery, the "Bush-7" beer was launched on the market. It has an alcohol content of 7.5%, in contrast to the traditional Busch beer, which has an alcohol content of 12%. In 1996 the "Bush beer" was renamed "amber-colored Bush beer" ("Bush ambrée"). In 2000 the “Cuvée des Trolls” beer appeared, and in 2003 a new brand was added to the product range: the “Bush Prestige” beer.

The Dubuisson brewery has introduced and invested in numerous innovations in the last few years: first in the expansion of the beer range (the beer was sold throughout Belgium and in over 30 other countries worldwide); then to the recent creation of two micro-breweries (in 2000 in Louvain-la-Neuve and in 2003 in Mons ) and finally a new visitor center in Pipaix; this includes among other things:

  • a brewery museum
  • a tavern ("Trolls & Bush")
  • a gift shop
  • a small cafeteria
