Duchesse (French for "Duchess") is the trade name for high-quality, heavy and shiny fabrics made of silk , half silk or synthetic filaments .

Originally it was a pure silk warp atlas fabric in 12-thread atlas (satin), the warp of organsin and the weft of tramé . Today this type of fabric is also produced in an eight-string warp atlas.

A high number of threads in warp (100 to 200 / dm) and weft (40 to 90 / dm) must be selected for these weaves. The thread count in the warp is between 6.8 and 3.4 tex and between 14 and 6.8 tex in the weft. The basis weight is between approx. 60 and 140 g / m², which causes a flowing fall. The dense chain creates a high gloss effect.

Duchesse is made into festive dresses, costumes and blouses and used as lining for jackets and coats.
