weather condition

On May 5th, the center of the Zoran depression was over the British Isles. It carried warm air from North Africa and the Mediterranean to Germany, so that the daytime temperatures rose to values of 20 ° C to 27 ° C. Before the cold front, heavy precipitation with thunderstorms moved eastward over northern Germany from the Netherlands. A shortwave trough at heights intensified the uplift processes at the air mass limit. In southern Germany, a strong foehn , which reached gusts of up to 120 km / h on the Zugspitze, prevented thunderstorms from occurring until evening. In these thunderstorms, some of which were accompanied by hail, some gusts reached hurricane strength. At least six tornadoes resulted from these thunderstorms in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, of which the tornado in Bützow was the strongest. A tornado observed in Groß Laasch reached strength F2 . The two tornadoes in Brüel and Ahrensboek reached strength F1. There are also several suspected tornado cases, including from Lübeck.
