Fragrance Museum in the Farina House

The Fragrance Museum in the Farina House is within sight of the Cologne City Hall and opposite the Wallraf-Richartz Museum in Cologne and is housed in the original production rooms of the 18th century in the birthplace of Eau de Cologne .

The oldest perfume factory in the world, Johann Maria Farina opposite Jülichs-Platz , which was founded in 1709 and is still in existence today , has been based in the building at Obenmarspforten since 1723. The production methods of the Eau de Cologne have been shown on several floors in the museum since its first days production and the equipment used for the production shown, for example, used by Farina first to a greater extent for the perfume production stills . In addition, documents and pictures of the perfume production and attempts at plagiarism of the product that have not yet been able to rely on a legally anchored trademark protection can be seen. Further exhibits show the development of perfume production and marketing in glass containers.

On November 25, 2006, the 240th anniversary of Johann Maria Farina's death, the Farina House was named a “Selected Location” in the Federal President's project “ Germany - Land of Ideas ”.
