The title was recreated on February 4, 1822 for Richard Temple-Nugent-Brydges-Chandos-Grenville, 2nd Marquess of Buckingham . At the death of his grandson, the 3rd Duke, on March 26, 1889, who left no male offspring, the title Earl Temple of Stowe fell to his nephew William Temple-Gore-Langton as 4th Earl due to a special inheritance regulation in the female line ; the titles Viscount Cobham and Baron Cobham fell to his distant relative Charles Lyttelton, 5th Baron Lyttelton as 8th Viscount; his remaining titles expired.
