geography

Malahara and Mehara women fish for catfish and tilapias . Saltwater crocodiles up to four meters long also live in the river

Malahara is located in Suco Muapitine ( Lospalos administrative office ), near the south bank of Ira Lalaro , East Timor's largest lake. Until 2015, the area still belonged to the Suco Mehara ( Tutuala administrative office ). There is a primary school in the village.

In Malahara, plans were made for several years underground for the largest hydroelectric power station in the country to date, which would supply Lospalos and Dili with electricity. The water should flow from the Ira Lalaro below the Paitchau mountain range towards the Timor Sea . The project has since been discontinued.
