Charles Lyttelton, 8th Viscount Cobham
Charles George Lyttelton, 8th Viscount Cobham (born October 27, 1842 in Hagley Hall , Hagley , Worcestershire , † June 9, 1922 there ), from 1876 to 1889 also known under the title of 5th Baron Lyttelton , was a British peer and politician the Liberal Party .
Life
Lyttelton was the eldest son of George Lyttelton, 4th Baron Lyttelton and Mary Glynne. Famous cricketer Alfred Lyttelton was his younger brother.
In 1868 Lyttelton was elected to the House of Commons for the constituency of East Worcestershire , which he held until 1874. In addition to his parliamentary career, he was also high sheriff of Bewdley . Lyttelton inherited the title of 5th Baron Lyttelton from his father in 1876 and thereby became a member of the House of Lords . In 1889 he inherited his distant relative Richard Temple-Nugent-Brydges-Chandos-Grenville, 3rd Duke of Buckingham and Chandos as 8th Viscount Cobham .
In 1878 he married Mary Susan Caroline Cavendish, daughter of William Cavendish, 2nd Baron Chesham . He died in June 1922 at the age of 79. His eldest son, John, inherited his title . His widow died in 1937.
Lyttelton came from a famous cricket family, his father ( George Lyttelton ), five brothers, sons ( John Lyttelton , Charles Frederick Lyttelton ) and grandson ( Charles Lyttelton ) all played first-class cricket and, in the case of Alfred Lyttelton, even played test cricket . He himself played 35 first-class matches between 1861 and 1867, mostly for the Cambridge University Cricket Club . In 1886 he was president of the Marylebone Cricket Club .
