Duke of Ross

Duke of Ross was a hereditary British title of nobility created twice in the Peerage of Scotland .

Awards

The title was first created on January 29, 1488 for James Stewart, 1st Earl of Ross . He was the second son of King Jacob III. of Scotland . The title was bestowed on him along with the subordinate titles of Marquess of Ormond , Earl of Edirdale and Lord Brechin and Navar . As early as January 23, 1481, the titles Earl of Ross and Lord of Brechin, Navar and Ardmannoch had been awarded to him. All of these titles belonged to the Peerage of Scotland and expired on his death on January 17, 1504.

In the second bestowal, the title was bestowed on Alexander Stewart in 1514 . He was the posthumous fourth son of King Jacob IV of Scotland . The title expired when he died on December 18, 1515.
