Duke of York (ship, 1935)
|
The Duke of York was built in 1935 by Harland & Wolff for the London Midland & Scottish Railway as a passenger ship.
During the Second World War , the ship was converted for military use. After the end of the military service, the ship was dismantled for civil use with minor modifications. Among other things, one of the former two chimneys of the steamer was removed.
In the late 1940s, the ship was sold to British Railways . In May 1953, the ship collided with the American freighter Haiti Victory in thick fog. The ship was repaired and used for another decade until it was sold to the Chandris Lines Shipping Company in 1964 . They put the ship into service as Fantasia .
