The Dulcería de Celaya is a confectionery shop with two shops in Mexico City . The Dulcería was founded in 1874 by the Guízar family; the specialty store was the first of its kind in all of Latin America. They only sell typical Mexican sweets, mostly from their own production, but also from other manufacturers.

The name refers to the Mexican city of Celaya , which had an outstanding reputation for its sweets at the end of the 19th century. The first shop was located in today's Calle de Madero , around 1900 the company moved to Avenida 5 de Mayo , where it is still based today. The Art Nouveau shop with mirrors all around, hand-carved oak chests of drawers and green tiled floors has remained largely unchanged since then, and the shop's sign is the oldest in the historic center of Mexico City.

The Dulcería usually has around 90, seasonally up to 150 different sweets, mostly based on milk, coconut, sugar, fruits and nuts. Among them are Jamoncillos , Nogada , Muéganos and Palanqueta , but also regional specialties like Camotes (small rolls of mashed sweet potato, typical of the state of Puebla ) or Tepopozte from Colima .

Originally the company only sold third-party goods, but later began to manufacture individual parts of the range itself, first in the basement of the shop, later in its own factory in the neighboring district of Colonia Roma , where a branch of the company is also located. Today around 90 percent of the offer comes from our own production, only regional specialties are still purchased.

Today, when the confectionery market is largely dominated by mass products, the Dulcería is a classic specialty shop, and it is increasingly visited by tourists, especially from Europe.
