Dulgubnier

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dulgubnians (also Dulgubner ; Latin: Dulgibinii ; Greek: Δουλγούμνιοι) were a West Germanic tribe mentioned in Tacitus ' Germania (34.1) and Ptolemaeus ' Geographia (II, 11.9).

The Germanic tribe of dulgubnii lived, according to Tacitus south of Hamburg about in what is now the Lüneburg Heath and Aller to the modern city of Celle . They lived with it northeast of the Angrivarians and Chamaven .

In the later times of the beginning of the mass migration , the Dulgubnians no longer appeared as an independent people . The Lombards ( Bardengau ) who immigrated from the Elbe region then lived in these areas . Like many other small Germanic tribes, the Dulgubnians seem to have merged into larger peoples, possibly Saxons or Chauken .
