The Dunblane Museum is a museum in the Scottish town of Dunblane in the Stirling Council Area . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

The building was constructed in 1624 as the residential building of James Pearson , the deacon of Dunblane Cathedral . In 1765 the building was redesigned and expanded. It has remained largely unchanged since then. Originally it was two separate buildings that were combined at an unknown point in time. In addition to the museum, there are still apartments in the building.

collection

The Dunblane Museum displays historical exhibits from the city of Dunblane. The focus is on the history of Dunblane Cathedral. There are also archived genealogical and city documents. In addition, there is a historical collection of books in the museum's possession, which cannot be borrowed.

The Dunblane Museum is located in the historic center of Dunblane, close to Dunblane Cathedral and the Leighton Library . Originally throughout two floors, the larger northern part has since been increased . The facades are plastered with Harl , with sandstone details set off. Today's museum portal on the west-facing main facade is chamfered . A front staircase along the facade leads to another door with a simple combat window on the first floor. Another similarly designed door is located on the lower right part of the building. A heraldic plate embedded there shows a heart pierced by two swords and the initials "JP". Elongated lattice windows of various sizes are embedded along the facade . The final gable roof is covered with gray slate.
