The Cathedral of Dunblane is a Presbyterian church in the same place near Stirling in Scotland .

history

Today the church is no longer a cathedral church, but is the larger of two parish churches of the Church of Scotland in Dunblane. Up until the Scottish Reformation it was the seat of a Roman Catholic bishop. William Chisholme , the last Bishop of Dunblane until 1561, later became Bishop of Vaison in France . In the wake of the Reformation, the main nave of the cathedral was devastated and in ruins. The roof collapsed in 1622 and services were only held in the choir area. In 1816, architect James Gillespie Graham carried out a minor renovation. In 1889-93, however, in order to expand capacity, a comprehensive neo-Gothic reconstruction of the cathedral under the direction of Robert Rowan Anderson , which made the main nave usable again. The elaborate choir stalls date from 1912 to 1914.

Margaret Drummond , a mistress of King James IV , and her two sisters are buried here. There are also graves of the Stirling clan in the church. a. by Jane Stirling , an admirer and piano student of Frederic Chopin .

The building is owned by the British Crown and is maintained by Historic Scotland. The church also serves as a memorial to the victims of the 1996 Dunblane massacre of 16 children by a gunman.

The organ was built in 1990 by the organ building company Flentrop (Zaandam, Netherlands). The instrument has 41 stops on three manuals and a pedal . The actions are mechanical.
