The Dundee Law is the core of an extinct volcano that formed about 400 million years ago and is now a landmark of the Scottish city of Dundee .
This elevation (174 m / 571 ft ) in the center of the city has been used as a settlement and defensive area for thousands of years. During the Iron Age there was a fortification here and graves from around 1500 BC have been found on its slopes. Found.
In 1820 it was tunnelled for the Dundee Newtyle railway line. Today there is a viewing platform on its summit, from which you can see a good 60 kilometers in clear weather, and a memorial to the fallen of the two world wars.
The Dundee Law landscape is a protected area but is open to walkers.
The term Law in Scotland generally refers to a free-standing volcanic cone that is clearly visible from a distance, such as the North Berwick Law .
